Delta flight fills with ‘smoke’ as passengers forced to evacuate on emergency slides at Atlanta airport
Ninety-four passengers and crew were forced to evacuate a Delta Air Lines flight using emergency slides after smoke was reported in the flight deck at Atlanta airport.
The incident occurred aboard Flight 876, a Boeing 717-200 aircraft, at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Monday.
The aircraft was safely evacuated after crew members detected smoke in the cabin, requiring an emergency response.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the emergency incident happened around 9am local time.
The aircraft was bound for Columbia Metropolitan Airport in South Carolina when the emergency situation developed.
The flight had only just departed from Atlanta when crew members noticed the issue, prompting an immediate return to the airport.
An emergency was declared to receive priority handling from air traffic control for the aircraft’s return.
