Mark Carney branded a ‘globalist climate zealot’ in blistering attack as Canada’s new PM faces Trump threat

Canadian journalist Harrison Faulkner has described Mark Carney, the new Canadian prime minister, as “the ultimate pragmatist” and “the textbook definition of a globalist”.

Speaking to GB News, Faulkner highlighted Carney’s impressive background as the former Governor of the Bank of England – the first foreign governor in the institution’s history.

Faulkner suggested Carney’s leadership marks a significant shift from Justin Trudeau’s approach, and be “stronger” on the threat of Donald Trump and his imposed tariffs.

He told GB News: “He is a board member on the world economic forum, he has chaired some of the largest multi-national corporations in the world, and of course as your audience will know, he was the former Governor of the Bank of England – the first foreign Governor of the Bank of England in its history.

“And before that, he was Canada’s governor of our Central Bank. He’s a left-wing ideologue, he believes in climate action, he was the chair of the UN’s special envoy for climate change, but of course as he said, he is the ultimate pragmatist and that is evident in his policies and promises to Canadians that he ran on.”

“He really is trying to pitch himself as a Centrist here, but his background would say otherwise,” Faulkner explained.

Noting the difference in his policies to Trudeau, Faulkner said: “It seems to be a clear rebuke of Justin Trudeau’s leadership – the two most obvious policies being Justin Trudeau’s carbon tax and a capital gains tax hike.

“He has vowed to scrap those, calling those divisive policies. So I think it is pretty clear that he is going to be an improvement on Justin Trudeau, if he does what he says he’s going to do.”

Faulkner believes Carney will be an improvement on Trudeau if he delivers on his promises, as Carney’s economic policies suggest a more business-friendly approach than his predecessor’s.

“Mark Carney instills confidence in the Canadian people because of his resume, you really can’t impeach his resume,” he said.

He added: “He has a lot of experience in the private sector and he has experience guiding Canada through financial crises.

“Two things he’s promised to do is to actually cap the size of the federal bureaucracy, which has grown by over 40 per cent under Justin Trudeau, and he has vowed to balance Canada’s operating budget. He wants to split the budgets in half and balance an operating budget which I think is severely needed in our country.”

Faulkner concluded that Carney is “going to right that ship to a degree” regarding Canada’s fiscal situation.

He expressed confidence that the new Liberal leader would implement better financial management. Faulkner also suggested Carney would take a stronger stance with Donald Trump than Trudeau did.

He stated: “We have terrible fiscal management, we’ve been struck by terrible fiscal management over the past 10 years.

“And I think it’s pretty clear that Mark Carney is going to right that ship to a degree, and be stronger on Donald Trump than Justin Trudeau.”
