Jet2 plane from Tenerife to Nottingham makes emergency landing after passenger dies onboard flight

A Jet2 flight from Tenerife to East Midlands Airport was forced to make an emergency landing yesterday afternoon after a passenger died onboard.

Flight LS676, which departed from the Spanish island at 7.05pm, had to be diverted to mainland Spain due to a severe medical emergency.

The passenger, a man in his 70s whose nationality has not been disclosed, experienced significant medical problems during the journey.

The flight crew reported to air traffic control that they had a passenger requiring immediate medical attention.

The aircraft was diverted to Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport in the region of Galicia, where emergency services were alerted.

An ambulance from the Galician Health Emergency Service-061 was dispatched to the terminal.

Upon landing at the airport, medical staff attended to the passenger on the runway.

Despite the prompt medical response, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Tenerife newspaper Diario de Avisos: “A flight covering the Tenerife South-Nottingham route has been diverted on Friday afternoon to Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport due to the indisposition of a passenger, who has finally died.”

The local paper added: “The flight crew reported that they had a passenger with significant medical problems on board and need to be urgently diverted to the Compostela airport.”

“An ambulance from the Galician Health Emergency Service-061 was sent to the terminal in the Galician capital, whose medical staff confirmed the death of a man in his 70s.”
