Product recall: Britons alerted of dangerous electrical appliance which ‘presents a serious risk of fire’
Britons have been warned of a potentially dangerous plug adaptor due to it posing serious fire safety concerns.
The adaptor was found to have critical safety flaws including an insufficient fuse and inadequate earthing.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) warned Britons the charging cable could overheat and ignite if there was a power surge or product fault.
The Chinese-manufactured product was rejected at the border after failing to meet UK safety regulations.

The OPSS said: “The product presents a serious risk of fire as the plug is fitted with an insufficient fuse with no granular filler so cannot function properly.
“The supply cord’s cross-sectional area is also not sufficient. Due to these faults, if there is a surge in current or a fault with the product, the plug could overheat and ignite, causing a fire.
“The product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 or the Plugs & Sockets (Safety) Regulations 1994.”
The OPSS alerts people of product recalls and safety reports of potentially dangerous items.
