‘Net zero, not extreme weather is damaging our economy,’ warns Rees-Mogg

Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg has claimed on GB News that Britain’s economy is being held back by the net zero agenda rather than extreme weather conditions.

His comments came in response to European Commission forecasts suggesting 2024 will likely be the hottest year on record.

The Conservative MP criticised reliance on “unreliable wind and solar energy” which he said makes energy more expensive for consumers and businesses.

He pointed to electricity prices for industry being “four times those of the United States” and warned that new oil and gas licensing restrictions put jobs at risk.

Rees-Mogg also opposed the planned 2030 ban on new petrol and diesel cars, arguing it would increase prices for consumers.
