Farmers are about to take this war to the NEXT LEVEL – I am not sure Starmer is ready – Adam Brooks
As the country that panic-bought loo rolls through fear of them running out, it’s safe to say we do not react very well to certain things possibly being taken away from us.
We have also seen that with the rumours of petrol and diesel shortages, where people would all rush to the garages and literally queue for hours.
Now, things like that make you think: ‘what would happen if there was a real possibility that supermarkets ran dry of essential foods?’
I think that we would see real panic nationwide, and unfortunately, that is a real possibility if this Labour Government continues to turn the screw on our farmers.
This battle is an unnecessary one. Farmers have been protected from inheritance tax on their farms for many decades – and for good reason: it is an industry that needs to be protected at all costs, not just anyone can stand in and run a farm.
It’s not an industry where the army can come in and help; it is a specialised field which takes years to learn and perfect, normally from father to his son or even his daughter.
Farming is a way of life, a 24-hour job, where some get up as early as 3am to tend to animals, in minus temperatures, in heavy rain or even snow, with thick freezing mud a certainty.
I’m no stranger to hard work; the pub game can consume most of your day and night sometimes, but I’m definitely not built to do the work of a farmer.
I cannot think of many tougher vocations in life and one for such little profit sometimes.
Farmers may be asset-rich, but their farms, their machinery, and their farmhouses are all invested in the service that they provide the country and, ultimately, me and you, our food and essentials.
Rachel Reeves’ tax assault came out of the blue, cooked up by a man who advocated for the state to take part ownership of farms, but the craziest part is that it will only raise around 500million a year on their own estimates.
This would fund the NHS for a day, possibly two, so her argument that this was necessary to fund the NHS was a lie of the highest order. I cannot believe that the media has not made more of her claim.
Now, I am a man for legal protest, I’ve been on many. It is a fundamental right of the people of this country, and last month’s farmer protest was certainly an eye-opener for me, there was real passion and anger from the attendees, and I made them right.
What is going to be interesting is the farmers’ next move. There is a protest planned for the 11th of December in Westminster.
I think that this is going to be a real show of force from the industry that feeds us and our kids, and I really am not sure that this Government is ready for the backlash that is coming.
Farmers have the power to absolutely disrupt the UK food chain and literally cause supermarkets to simply be full of frozen and packed food only.
With that in mind, I think that to protect their livelihoods and the future of their children, they are about to take this war to the next level and I cannot make them wrong.
Why pick this fight for such little gain? There are much more simple ways to track down tax-avoiding land investors and simply put measures in place to close that so-called loophole.
Starmer, you should be on the side of those that feed you. I count myself among those willing to fight for our farmers in Westminster.
I’m right behind you all.
