Princess Kate receives special gesture from King Charles amid monarch missing her Christmas event

King Charles made a thoughtful contribution to the Princess of Wales’s Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey, despite being unable to attend the festive celebration on Friday.

The monarch donated numerous fir trees from Windsor Great Park to decorate the historic venue for the special event.

The generous gesture was acknowledged in the event’s order of service, which featured an artistic illustration by Charlie Mackesy on its cover.

Inside the programme, a special note read: “With thanks to His Majesty The King for donating Christmas trees from Windsor Great Park to decorate Westminster Abbey. After the Service, these trees will be donated to the local community.”

While the King and Queen Camilla were notably absent from the service, with the Queen currently recovering from pneumonia, their presence was felt through this meaningful contribution.

One of the fir trees served a special purpose as a designated ‘kindness tree’ positioned outside Westminster Abbey.

Guests were invited to hang personal messages on this special spruce, dedicating their notes to individuals who had demonstrated love, empathy and kindness.

Among the touching tributes was a heartfelt message from Prince Louis, the Princess of Wales’s youngest son.

His note, addressed to his grandparents Carole and Michael Middleton, read: “Thank you to Granny and Grandpa because they have played games with me.”

The thoughtful messages reflected the service’s focus on community spirit and connection through acts of kindness.

The initiative provided attendees with a meaningful way to express gratitude to those who have made a difference in their lives.

The Christmas trees played a central role in embodying this year’s carol service theme, which celebrated those who demonstrate love, kindness and empathy in their communities.

The order of service captured this sentiment with Mackesy’s illustration showing people walking arm in arm through the snow towards the Abbey.

Beneath the drawing were the poignant words: “How did I help?” “You were by my side, which was everything.”

The service focused on individuals who have inspired, counselled, and comforted others, highlighting how love serves to unite and connect communities.

In a final act of community spirit, the King’s donated trees will find new homes after the service, being distributed throughout the local area.
