Millions of Virgin Media users treated to FREE 4K upgrade this Christmas

Virgin Media has an early Christmas present for millions of its customers.

For a limited time, Virgin Media TV viewers will be able to watch blockbuster movies and theatre productions in crisp 4K Ultra HD picture quality for free until the end of December.

Virgin Media full-fibre broadband + television starts from £31.99

Virgin Media will handle your full-fibre broadband connection — with speeds of 132Mbps — and its latest Stream set-top box with over 150+ live television channels and support for streamers like Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, and much more. You can also catch-up on shows and films from all of the terrrestrial broadcasters in the UK on a fuss-free 30-day rolling contract. If you spend more, you’ll be able to customise the package with optional extras like Sky Cinema, Sky Sports, and more

As its name suggests, the Virgin TV UHD channel is designed to showcase a range of content, from great TV shows, concerts, and top movies in the highest fidelity available on the set-top box. Whether you’re in the mood for witty drama, mind-bending sci-fi, or hide-behind-the-sofa horror, it’s all coming to your telly this Christmas in vivid Ultra High Definition, which has 4x as many pixels as HD.

Virgin Media usually only includes this channel in its pricier package subscriptions. But as an early Christmas gift for its subscribers, Virgin TV UHD will be available at no extra cost from December 1 until January 1, 2025 at no cost.

If you’re not watching on a 4K television — don’t worry, you won’t miss out on the giveaway. Virgin TV viewers without an Ultra HD screen will still be able to watch all of the episodes, films, and concerts in HD quality.

Virgin TV UHD channel broadcasts 24/7, but everything shown on the channel will also be available on-demand. So, if you’ve missed your favourite movie or show, you can start watching whenever is most convenient for you throughout the festive period.

You can also watch on a tablet or phone in the house with the Virgin TV Anywhere app.

Since the channel is designed for all ages, family-friendly films will follow musical offerings throughout the day. But from 9pm onwards, the channel switches to box office movies, featuring acclaimed dramas and popular classics.

Musical theatre highlights include Titanic: The Musical, An American in Paris, and Kinky Boots: The Musical, featuring Strictly Come Dancing’s Johannes Radebe. The afternoon family film selection offers something for every taste, from fairy tales to festive features. You’ll be able to enjoy classics like Cinderella and seasonal offerings such as Christmas On The Vine.

Other family-friendly titles include Smurfs: The Lost Village, The Star, and Goosebumps. For younger audiences, animated features like The Emoji Movie and The Swan Princess are also part of the line-up.

After the sun sets, the evening movie selection features Oscar-winning drama Whiplash alongside beloved sci-fi comedy Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.

You’ll also be able to watch All The Money In The World, Call Me By Your Name, Black Hawk Down, The Pianist, Mulholland Drive, and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s classic, Last Action Hero.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

Virgin TV Ultra HD can be accessed on channel 175 or 999 for eligible customers. The service is available to anyone with either a Virgin TV V6, Virgin TV 360, or Virgin Stream box. However, subscribers who still rely on the older TiVo boxes will not be able to access the Ultra HD channel, since this ageing hardware doesn’t support the ultra-crisp picture format.
