REVEALED: Reform UK poised to unseat Keir Starmer with unstoppable ‘bridging’ tactic to win power in 2029
Reform UK will win the next General Election by seizing the economic agenda, a Tory defector claims.
It comes as Nigel Farage’s party pulls ahead in opinion polls, overtaking Labour for the first time.
Up until this point, immigration has been the open goal for Reform as voters punish the two main parties over their inability to bring numbers down.
The number of illegal boat crossings increased significantly during the 14 years Conservatives were in power.
Over 100,000 people have crossed the Channel in small boats since 2018, when records began.
Things haven’t improved since Labour returned to power – over 20,000 migrants have arrived via small boats.
This is a big issue for voters, with 39 per cent of British voters considering it a top issue as of early 2024.
Among Conservative and Leave voters, this number is even higher, with 65 per cent and 64 per cent, respectively identifying immigration as a key concern.
In fact, it was the Conservatives’ failure to get a handle on immigration that made Tim Montgomerie defect to Reform after 33 years earlier this week.
Montgomerie tells GB News that Reform should keep up this line of attack on Labour and his old party because it’s resonating.
“It’s vital Reform keeps hammering on the issue because it has got it so much support,” he said.
However, it’s Starmer’s appalling record on the economy that will propel his new party to power, Montgomerie reckons.
He explained: “It’s going to become more and more obvious that Labour is going to fail economically. We already have this dark cloud over the economy caused by the budget.
“And so Reform will need an economic agenda that appeals to those people who will be losing their jobs, struggling to make ends meet. That economic agenda will be crucial to bridging Reform from being a successful party of opposition to potentially a party of government.”

What is Reform’s economic agenda?
Reform UK has set forth several economic policies within its manifesto, which they term as a “Contract with the British people”.
It’s largely built around reducing state intervention, promoting business freedom, and directly addressing public concerns about taxation and immigration’s impact on the economy.
On taxation, which Deputy leader Richard Tice says has left the British people “struggling to breathe under the burden”, Reform UK plans to increase the income tax threshold to £20,000, effectively removing around six million people from paying income tax. This policy is intended to boost spending power and stimulate economic activity.
Reform proposes a freeze on what they describe as non-essential immigration. This includes tightening rules around work visas, with a specific policy to increase the National Insurance rate to 20 per cent for employers hiring foreign workers, except in health, social care, and for very small businesses.
The feasibility and potential consequences of these policies will be subject to increasing scrutiny as the next General Election approaches.
