‘Fighting for his life!’ British tourist hospitalised after being ‘punched’ by bouncer in Benidorm just days after proposing to girlfriend
A British tourist is fighting for his life after being punched by a bouncer in Benidorm just days after proposing to his girlfriend.
Andrew ‘Andy’ Frazer, 43, from St Helens in Merseyside, was allegedly floored by a doorman in an “unprovoked” attack during a lads’ holiday to the Costa Blanca resort.
The father-of-two had proposed to his long-term partner Carrie Howard just nine days before the incident.
The attack occurred outside a pub in Benidorm’s famous Little England area, where Frazer, who works as a ramp agent at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, was holidaying with friends.
A 42-year-old Romanian man has been arrested in connection with the incident, which took place on November 14.
The unnamed suspect was held last week on suspicion of wounding but was released on bail pending an ongoing criminal investigation. He appeared before a judge in a private court hearing where he denied being the person who assaulted Frazer.
The suspect is being represented by lawyer Roberto Sanchez Martinez, who previously defended five British men who were cleared of wrongdoing in connection with the 2017 death of Scottish tourist Kirsty Maxwell in Benidorm.
Frazer had to undergo emergency surgery to remove part of his skull to relieve swelling on the brain. His sister-in-law Claire Howard revealed he was initially sent back to his hotel after hospital treatment without a CT scan.

When his condition deteriorated the following day, he was taken to another hospital where a scan revealed a serious brain bleed.
Due to the severity of his injuries, Frazer had to endure a gruelling 27-hour journey back to the UK in a private ambulance, as his condition was too serious for air travel. The full extent of his injuries is still being assessed by medical professionals.
His brother Ian, who was part of a group of six men attending Europe’s largest fancy dress party, witnessed the attack.
Ian told Mail Online: “Andrew was outside waiting for us in the road. He was on the kerb edge of the footpath, and this bouncer was stood in front of him and in his face My brother was looking over his shoulder to see when we were coming out, and this guy just punched him and knocked him out.”
Ian described how a British nurse who was passing by helped tend to his brother after he fell backwards and hit his head on the road.
A GoFundMe campaign set up to help fund Mr Frazer’s return to the UK has already raised more than £30,000 of its £35,000 target. The fundraiser was necessary as Mr Frazer did not have travel insurance for his trip.
Friends and family posted an update on the GoFundMe page last week, stating: “With your incredible help we have managed to raise enough funds to get him home safely and we can’t thank you enough.”
