A46 crash: Five rushed to hospital after lorry and bus ‘carrying school children’ collide

Five people have been hospitalised and 16 more injured after a lorry and bus carrying schoolchildren crashed on the A46.

The collision happened at around 9.30am on a northbound stretch of the A-road near Syston, Leicestershire – with emergency services still in place and the road closed off.

A spokesman for Leicestershire Police confirmed a total of 16 people had sustained “minor” injuries.

While five more have been taken to hospital “as a precaution”, the force said.

Data from National Highways says the A46 northbound between the A607 Syston North and the junction with the A6006 is still closed – and is expected to reopen at 5.30pm.
