TV star’s husband, 49, dies suddenly two years after her suicide as three young children orphaned
Alan Plummer, the husband of late Australian TV presenter Erin Jayne Plummer, has died suddenly at the age of 49, just two years after his wife’s suicide.
Plummer was found dead at the family’s home in Freshwater, Sydney, on Saturday, leaving the couple’s three daughters orphaned.
The incident is being described as a suspected self-harm case by sources familiar with the situation, coming in the wake of his wife’s death in May 2022.
Plummer, who was the former director of a now-defunct company called Shine VIP Tours Australia PTY LTD, had recently sold the family’s four-bedroom home which they had owned for more than two decades.
His death marks another devastating chapter for the family, following the loss of his wife who was a well-known presenter on Studio 10 and Aerobics Oz Style.
A New South Wales Police spokesperson confirmed: “Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner regarding the death of a 49-year-old man at Freshwater on Saturday.”
The tragedy occurred just two months after Plummer sold the family’s Freshwater property in a private settlement before auction. The home, which the Plummers had purchased for £675,000 in 2002, had been listed for sale in March this year.
The circumstances surrounding Plummer’s death are currently under investigation, with authorities preparing a full report for the Coroner.
Erin Jayne Plummer was just 42 when she died in May 2022. She had been a prominent figure in Australian television for over two decades, best known for her role as a professional presenter on Studio 10 and other major shows.
Her career began when she was scouted at Sydney’s Manly Beach and cast in a tourism campaign that aired on NBC in America.
She was particularly renowned for hosting Aerobics Oz Style for six years, a programme that reached a global audience of 40 million people across 80 countries.
Beyond television, Erin was an accomplished athlete who represented Australia in synchronised swimming at three world championships and claimed 11 national titles.
Her versatile career included appearances on MTV, The Morning Show, and Totally Active TV, alongside countless voice-over work for television programmes.
She was affectionately known as The Danoz Girl for her work hosting advertorials, promoting various products from massage chairs to steam mops.
Following Erin’s death, her colleague Sarah Harris paid an emotional tribute to the presenter on social media.
“Over the weekend, Studio 10 lost a little bit of sparkle with our friend and advertorial host Erin Jayne passing away suddenly,” Sarah wrote. “For two decades, Erin Jayne has been a friendly and familiar face on Australian television, for a lot of that she’s been brightening up our mornings with her bubbly personality and megawatt smile.”
Sarah described Erin as “a gorgeous human inside and out” and highlighted her sporting achievements.
“She represented Australia in synchronised swimming and even surf life-saving. There is no question Erin Jayne was a high achiever and certainly a gold medal mum to her three young girls,” she added.
