Fraudster steals hundreds from ‘vulnerable’ woman after charging her for fake roof repairs

A man targeted a “vulnerable” woman by charging her hundreds of pounds for fake roof repairs on her home in Northamptonshire.

William Patrick Wallace told the woman, who lived Corby, that her roof was damaged and demanded payment – however the work wasn’t required.

Wallace conspired with a male “associate” to prey on the woman, the court heard.

Initially, they claimed her roof could be fixed for £250, but after a purported inspection, they increased the cost to £490.

The woman – described by police as “vulnerable” – gave them the cash.

Both Wallace and the associate then fled in a white van without carrying out the work.

Following the incident, the woman informed a family member who then reported it to the police.

Officers launched an investigation and Wallace was later arrested.

He was charged with fraud by false representation and pleaded guilty to the offence at Northampton Crown Court in July.

Wallace was handed a 10 month jail sentence.

Lead investigator Police Constable Brad Wilson said: “William Wallace is a prolific offender who has been convicted of similar crimes before.

“And it is clear to see that he has not learnt his lesson.

“Preying on vulnerable people is utterly shameful and I hope Wallace realises that making money in this way is as far away from making an honourable living as it is possible to get.
