Jake Paul boxing retirement update revealed ahead of controversial Mike Tyson fight

PFL CEO Peter Murray has shut down talk of Jake Paul potentially retiring from boxing after his fight with Mike Tyson later in the year.

Paul and Tyson are set to do battle on November 15, having originally intended to fight on July 20.

Speaking recently, Murray said that the upcoming fight between Paul and Tyson would be the former’s ‘finishing up’ point for the year.

Some misinterpreted his words, however, believing that he’d suggested Paul would be hanging up his gloves to pursue a new challenge in MMA.

Murray, speaking to Bloody Elbow, has now provided an update.

He insists Paul will ‘continue on his boxing journey’, while also saying that the 27-year-old is ‘committed’ to making his MMA debut in 2025.

“Jake will continue on his boxing journey, but he is committed to making his PFL MMA debut in 2025,” he said.

Murray then said that Paul will be fighting a ‘real, legitimate fighter’ when he eventually ventures into the sport.

And he added: “We have a partnership with Jake and we’re looking forward to supporting him in MMA.

“We’re going to stage that mega event next year and more to come on that too, that will happen.

“There’s a number of opponents who continue to line up.”

Paul has offered to fight either Nate Diaz or Jorge Masvidal when he transfers over to MMA. However, given their ties to the UFC, it’s hard to see either showdown materialising.

For now, the American’s sole focus is on beating Tyson on November 15.

There remain concerns over whether the clash will actually end up happening, however, due to safety fears.

Tyson’s last professional fight was back in 2005, when he lost to Kevin McBride in 2005 before choosing to walk away from the sport.

There are concerns that he could sustain serious damage, however, due to the fact Paul is 31 years his junior.

Jeff Fenech knows all about Tyson, having trained him in the past.

And the Australian isn’t concerned for his old friend in the slightest, expressing a belief that the 58-year-old will win if he’s fast out of the blocks.

Fenech told Wide World of Sports: “I do not doubt if Mike takes it easy and doesn’t try to punch at the same time [he will win].

“If he makes Jake Paul miss, Mike will knock him out in a couple of rounds – one hundred percent.

“I spoke to Mike. I told him what I felt. Hopefully, he’ll listen to me.

“We said the same thing anyway. If he does what he said, then I have no doubt he will knock him out. He’ll have no problem.”
