Lady Louise takes part in event close to her heart

Lady Louise Windsor, the 20-year-old daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, showcased her impressive carriage driving skills at the British Carriage Driving National Championships in Great Canfield, Essex this weekend.

The young royal was photographed navigating a challenging course with a beaming smile, demonstrating her passion for the sport.

Dressed in a smart tweed coat paired with a white shirt and burgundy striped tie, Lady Louise appeared in her element during the equestrian event.

For the marathon portion, she donned a navy jumper, a safety vest and a riding helmet.

The royal’s participation in the event demonstrates Lady Louise’s commitment to continuing the Royal Family’s equestrian legacy and following in the footsteps of both her late grandparents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.

Lady Louise inherited her love for the sport from Prince Philip, who was instrumental in bringing carriage driving to the UK.

In a 2021 BBC One documentary, Lady Louise spoke fondly of her grandfather’s influence, saying: “The Duke of Edinburgh has been so involved in my driving which has been lovely, but slightly scary because he invented the sport pretty much.”

The young royal added: “After a competition, he would always ask how it went, his eyes would light up because he would get so excited when he talks about it.”

Lady Louise was taught to ride at an early age, following the Royal Family’s long-standing tradition of equestrian pursuits.

She is currently pursuing her studies in English Literature at the University of St Andrews.
