Tanni Grey-Thompson ‘still angry’ after ‘humiliating’ LNER experience
Former Paralympian and disabled rights campaigner Tanni Grey-Thompson has said she was left screaming for help to get off a train.
Speaking to GB News Tanni Grey-Thompson said:
“I booked assistance on a 1915 train. I missed it and got to Leeds at 1930 so they agreed to put me on the next one.
“When we got to London, I waited five minutes, which you’re meant to, before I started posting on social media or trying to contact the company.
“I tried to ring the assistance line, but there was no one there. I sent text messages and started posting.
“Actually, at one point, I was screaming on the train for help, and I’ve got a very loud voice, and then I decided to get off.
“A member of the cleaning staff did offer to help me, but they’re not insured and they’re not trained to use the ramp, so I’m not going to risk somebody’s job if anything happened by them helping me.
“But they noticed that I was getting off the train, but I was pretty much off the train by the time someone saw me.
“I had to go onto the floor, which is not the greatest place to sit, throw my stuff onto the platform and then transferred off.
“I can still do it. There are thousands of disabled people who can’t.
“I was considering pulling the emergency cord, but then that would have stopped the train going north.
“It’s absolutely awful in this day and age.”
