Second London building fire in just HOURS sees flat ENGULFED in flames as ‘bannisters and glass fall off the cladding’

Another building in London has set alight this afternoon just hours after a huge blaze saw 100 residents evacuated.

Witnesses claim there are “bannisters and glass falling off the cladding” as the fire rages on.

London Fire Brigade confirmed that ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters have been called to a fire in Blackwall.

Black smoke was seen pouring from the 25th floor of the New Providence Wharf, near Canary Wharf this afternoon.

One witness wrote on social media: “Raging fire blaze at New Providence Wharf?! Bannisters and glass falling off the cladding.

“Entire apartment engulfed in flames.”

It comes after 45 engines and 225 firefighters attended another scene on Freshwater Road, Dagenham during the early hours of this morning.

London Fire Brigade said the mixed-use residential and commercial building was known to have “a number of fire safety issues” and was covered in “non-compliant” cladding.

Firefighters remain at the scene of the blaze in Blackwall.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters are tackling a flat fire in a high rise building on Biscayne Avenue in Blackwall.

“Half of a flat and balcony on the 25th floor of the 45-storey building is alight.

“The fire is producing a large amount of smoke. Those in the local area are advised to keep windows and doors closed and avoid Biscayne Avenue if possible.

“The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers have taken over 100 calls to the blaze.

“The Brigade was first called at 1328. Crews from Millwall, Plaistow, Shadwell and surrounding fire stations are in attendance at the scene.

“The cause of the fire is not known at this time.”
