Mike Tyson ‘wouldn’t do that’ as fix claims shut down ahead of controversial Jake Paul showdown

UFC icon Randy Couture has shut down wild claims that Mike Tyson’s upcoming fight with Jake Paul could be fixed.

The two men will do battle on July 20, in a fight that has left the boxing community divided due to the huge 30-year age gap between the them.

Tyson will be 58 by the time the contest comes along but, while he’s one of the best heavyweights of all time, there are concerns he may not be able to cope with 27-year-old Paul.

Some fans have even suggested there’s a possibility the bout will be fixed to ensure neither fighter takes too much damage.

But Couture, speaking to Middle Easy, can’t see that being the case.

“I don’t even want to say that [it’s fixed] because I don’t think that’s true,” said the former UFC star.

“I don’t think Mike would do that. I see Mike going out there and tearing him up in in probably under two rounds.”

Tyson has been regularly updating fans with his progress as the fight creeps closer.

The former heavyweight champion has posted footage of himself hitting the pads while putting in the work in order to boost his chances of reigning supreme.

And Couture has been impressed by what he’s seen from the boxing icon.

“Look at the training footage, that pop is still there, that explosive speed and power is still there,” he said.

“I think this is obviously still a 58-year-old Mike Tyson but he’s still got it in my opinion and so that bodes well for going out and this probably ending within the first or second round and the longer it goes, just like when Mike was in his prime, the longer it went, the questions started rising.

“How’s the conditioning going to be? How’s his mindset going to be getting into those later rounds because he traditionally didn’t do as well the longer the fight went.

“Commend Jake Paul for being willing to literally step in there with an icon in the sport and one of the most vicious knockout artists the sport has ever seen.

“That’s balls the size of church bells in my opinion there are not a lot of people that are going to be willing to get in the ring even at 58 with Mike Tyson.

“I like that Jake has backed it up, I think he’s in trouble with this one.”

Tyson has been speaking ahead of the battle.

And the 57-year-old, during an interview with tennis star Nick Kyrgios, opened up on filing for bankrupcy all the way back in 2003.

While Tyson once had financial difficulties, he’s since bounced back and now has stability in his life.

Tyson recalled his past issues by saying: “At the beginning, I didn’t handle fame too well.

“You know because at first you want the fame of being a champion, but you have no control then.

“And that’s when I first started getting in trouble because sometimes I might be walking the streets, they don’t know my mother died or something about my family.

“I’m hurt and they just jumping in, ‘Hey man, give me a picture. Hey man this. Hey man. I love you. Give me this’.”

“I might not be in the mood, so I used to be violent about it. And then, I started getting quite a few lawsuits and I stopped.

“I’m a glutton for pain, but I stopped. I couldn’t sign anymore checks so. I was always being sued.

“Constantly blew my money away from being sued and going to court and just associating with the wrong people and making bad business decisions.

“And it was just the whole caboot, pretty much. That was just me getting caught up in a vortex of destroying myself.”
